Day 2

Today was a lot more productive than yesterday. Here is what I managed to accomplish:

Employment
Bonus Recovery:  I don't know why I expected to find a lawyer easily.  It's Alabama after all.
New Job:  Applied to three more jobs bringing the total to six

Skills and Hobbies
No progress here.  Yikes!

Side Income
Cleaned second car so selling it is easier.

Saving Money
Handy work:  Found out how to cap chimney.
Asked a friend to borrow a gown for a Mardi Gras ball

Fitness and Health
Exercise:  Rode my bike everywhere instead of driving.

Being a Good Person
Taught my out-of-work friend how to rewrite her resume to improve her job search.
Helped my husband set up his Twitter account
Did dishes, twice!
Met a friend at the restaurant where she works

Money Spent
$1 tipping friend
$15 Mardi Gras Ball tonight
Total: $16 WOOT!

Day 1 Accomplished

I ended up getting a lot less done that I had imagined.

My first mistake was that didn't take into account the crazy number of phones calls, texts, emails, facebook requests, etc. that I would get in one day.  My now former coworkers were really upset to hear that I had been fired.

My second mistake was to underestimate how emotionally draining it was for me to go pick up my personal belongings at my old work.  I thought I would hand over my computer, and grab my box.  I ended up having to be there an hour, while my things were cataloged,  in the visitor's parking lot.

Here is what I accomplished:

30 minutes vigorous exercise - HIIT

Solved mortgage crisis - My husband's income will qualify us instead of mine

Dollar Tree - still the best place for cheap toothbrushes

Improv show - For a friend

Recruiter - She will keep an eye out for jobs

Not too bad, but I do need to aim for more!

One last thing I need to watch out for... SPENDING.  Obviously, my income at this point is zero.  Yikes!  Going from, "just buy it, you make good money," to, "you make zero cash monies," is going to be tough.  The first few days will be easy.  The question is how long can I keep low spending up.

Money Spent
$16 - gas
$14 - Dollar Tree shopping trip
$10 Improv show - an investment in a relationship
Total: $40

A lot of room for improvement here!

The Game Plan

As I posted earlier, I have always thought that if I got laid off or fired, I wouldn't be one of those people that just starts watching TV.

I now realize that it is not that easy to be motivated...

So, that's where this blog comes in.  I plan on laying out some habits and areas of focus.  By having to post to the world what I am working on, I will have to make progress.  So here are some ideas I am kicking about.  I am going to spend the next couple days flushing my ideas out and making  a plan for progress.

Ideas so far:

Employment
- Bonus Recovery - I was fired before bonus payout, so I am not entitled to last year's bonus.
- New Job - Already looking

Skills and Hobbies
- Mardi Gras Costume - Mardi Gras is closing in, and my costume is still a pile of feathers.
- Mandarin - I like learning Chinese. Even though I am not traveling to China any more, I will continue my studies.
- Hats - I want to learn to make fancy hats.
- Tango - Recent addition to skills.  I need a lot of improvement.

Side Income
- Computer Programming - Sharepoint, Word Press, etc. all seem to be in demand
- Louisiana Professional Engineers License - Need to transfer from Alabama

Saving Money
- Handy work - We are closing on a house in March, it has issues, I need cheap labor (me).
- Other - To be determined

Fitness and Health
- Exercise - Its time to lose weight and get in shape
- ETC - I used to have a great routine.  I gave that up to work 11 hour days.

Education - In case I decide I need them to get a new job!
- MBA
- MSChE

I got fired!

After a year of dealing with a boss that drinks too much, constant harassment, and lies, I was finally fired from work.

I have always been one of those people that prays for the day I no longer have to go work everyday at some factory of crushed souls.  (Honestly, the company I just worked for called themselves a "Specialty Chemical" manufacturer, but in reality, all they could managed was to manufacture discontent and unhappiness).  I digress...

Anyway, I have always wanted to take a step back from work, so that I could pursue other interests.  I always dreamed of when I could have a simpler life.  I wasn't planning on it happening so fast, but here I am.

Now I just have to make the best of it...
